Story

Dr. John Hebert, III is a long-time champion for Obstetrics & Gynecology at Hurley Medical Center and in our community. Often at the forefront of change in our community. he's chaired the institution's Graduate Medical Education Committee for 25 years and served on other Hurley committees and community organizations to improve the health and safety of patients, staff and area citizens.

He has overseen the training and education of Ob/Gyn resident physicians since 1999. Many of the program's graduated residents have chosen to continue their practice within our community and at Hurley Medical Center; which can be directly attributed to their experiences as residents under Dr. Hebert's leadership. He's helped many resident physicians attain their goals of fellowship training. In fact, Hurley's Ob/Gyn residency program can boast of fellows and specialists in all the Ob/Gyn subspecialty fields.

Dr. Hebert has been the recipient of multiple awards for excellence in teaching and women's healthcare, including the Outstanding Teaching Award, the Clinton H. Dowd Teaching Award (both awards selected annually by Hurley Ob/Gyn residents), as well as, the MSU-CHM Association of Professors of Gynecology Teaching Award for excellence in undergraduate education of medical students. Additionally, Dr. Hebert is a past-recipient of Hurley's Pinnacle Award, the highest physician award at Hurley Medical Center.

Many are the times when a patient's mother or grandmother would remark while he was caring for the third or fourth generation in that family, what excellent care she received from Dr. Hebert years before.

He and his wife, Nelda, have four grown children, one of whom serves as a residency program director in her own right.

All funds received will be dedicated to the renovation of the Dr. John Hebert, III Labor & Delivery unit.
