OSCAR has been working for more than a decade with low-income families living in urban slums in Mumbai and rural Karnataka. Many families work as unskilled labourers and when the pandemic hit, their livelihoods were taken away from them overnight. The already disadvantaged communities were pushed into abysmal poverty.

As the world tried to adjust to the new normal, online education was hailed as the solution to ensure education access to all. Unfortunately, the shift from traditional classrooms to digital platforms not only increased learning inequality among children, but also pushed a large number out of school. This number is alarmingly disproportionate against girls, education is primarily for boys and parents have to make the difficult choice of choosing their son over daughter when allocating scarce resources.

OSCAR engages children and connects them to the football & education program ensuring no child is left behind due to lack of funds. Most OSCAR kids have no resources like phones, tablets or internet connectivity. Some use their parents or neighbours phone to attend online classes, which is very problematic. OSCAR aims to distribute 500 tablets among 1000 beneficiaries, ensuring their online education is continued and bridge the digital divide by introducing them to self-paced digital learning. One tablet with 3G and educational software in the child's local language for one year costs £200 and will be shared by two children.
