The Booth Memorial Scholarship Fund for Students of Spanish was created in honor of Herbert C. and Virginia Booth, parents of Ava Conley, Professor Emeritus of Spanish. The fund provides monies to assist students of Spanish who also have a medical services component in their career, with a preference for students who demonstrate financial need. Mr. Booth, a rural farm boy from West Virginia, valued greatly the importance of a college degree as he studied to become a teacher. He paid for his first year by growing enough potatoes on the family farm in order to feed the entire campus for an academic year. Eventually earning a Masters degree in education, he served as a teacher and principal and also as a mechanic in the Army Air Corps during World War II. Help us honor his memory by contributing to further the education of others!
