Michael Young and Kathy Tran-Peters want to let you in on one of SLCC's best-kept secrets.
The Honors Program, which launched this year in collaboration with faculty, staff and administrators, combines impactful learning, financial assistance, dedicated support and pathways to four-year universities to help students become "the best versions of themselves."
"We ask students to show us their dreams and their potential, and we help them reach their goals," said Associate Dean Young. "As one example, we remove barriers to graduation by building General Education courses into the Honors Program rather than requiring additional hours to achieve Honors designation."
The ultimate vision for the SLCC Honors Program includes scaling up to three times its current enrollment, expanding and enhancing dedicated Honors Program space, and creating additional articulation agreements like the one SLCC holds with the University of Utah, which provides a guaranteed path to the U's Honors College upon successful completion at SLCC.
"Ultimately we envision an inclusive, diverse community of motivated learners from across the college," said Tran-Peters, program coordinator.
