Story
The Great British September Clean is the UK's largest environmental campaign. Last year over half a million volunteers armed with litter pickers took to our streets to declare war on litter and plastic pollution removing almost 1 million bags.
The campaign is so important, not just to clean-up our beautiful green and blue spaces, but also to educate people as to why litter is so damaging.
Litter costs us nearly £1 billion pounds a year to clear up.
Litter harms wildlife. The RSPCA received 7,400 calls to report incidents of animals injured as a result of litter in 2018.
80% of litter that ends up in the sea begins on land, yet this is entirely preventable.
Litter picking can help improve mental health and well-being by getting outside and connecting with one another as part of a community.
Keep Britain Tidys research shows that people are more likely to litter where litter is present. Small actions can make a big difference.
