Story
The long-awaited Girls' Secondary School is nearing the final stages of construction. The main buildings are up and the site is being prepared for the official opening.
We have, so far, invested £570,000 to construct an exemplar girls school in the heart of one of Kenyas poorest regions. Located along the shores of Lake Victoria in western Kenya, Homabay County is home to nearly a million people with a rapidly growing population. The poverty rates in this area remain low, HIV rates are still high and there is significantly low infrastructural investment in schools, colleges and community centres.
The Mango Tree Girls School is being built in Mawego, a poor rural area, with a fantastic view over Lake Victoria and on land owned by the Trust. It will provide good quality secondary education for up to 420 girls and The Mango Tree UK, supported by our core base of loyal supporters, will provide means-tested bursaries to ensure that girls from disadvantaged families can attend school.
