UPDATE!
As the corona virus takes hold, unprecedented measures are being implemented across the world. In Morocco, schools and boarding houses have closed. That means that the EFA girls are now back in their villages in the remote rural High Atlas Mountains.
The Moroccan government is offering online lessons, and there are excellent learning tools available, however these girls either don't have a devise or cannot afford the internet charges needed to access these vital resources.
This lockdown has highlighted the huge digital divide faced by those living in remote rural areas. The EFA girls have not had access to the online lessons offered by the Moroccan government during these 3 months of lockdown.
We made our first target, thank you for your generous support! With your donations we have been able to buy tablets, SIM cards and internet data for all the girls who sat their baccalaureate exams this Summer.
For only £250 we can provide an essential tablet, sim card and internet data for a girl during lockdown so she does not fall behind in her education.
There may be more lockdowns and school closures ahead, so we would like to buy more tablets. The tablets will not only support the girls to study during future lockdowns, but also when they are away from the houses for longer times (during the long summer holidays).
If we reach our new target, we can ensure that 25 more girls get online, and don't fall behind in their studies!
Delivery Day
With the results of our first campaign, we delivered the first tablets to girls who will sit their final year secondary school exams this June! They were so happy to receive them and many said they felt there was finally hope for them to pass their exams.
This time is a new chapter for all of us, and in particular has highlighted the digital divide faced by young people who live in remote rural areas. It was a big decision to move forward with this project, with many practicalities needing attention, however the future of the girls was the driving factor.
We are confident that the tablets and internet data give them the access and freedom to learn that they deserve. It is essential that young people do not miss out on education, whether it is due to geography, poverty or pandemics. EFA, with your help, is proud to be tackling these obstacles so these young women can realise their full potential in life whilst benefitting the next generation.
We would like to invest in more tablets so all the girls studying the Baccaleureat (16-18) can have devices and internet at this crucial stage of their education. Thank you for your support.
