Coming together again to enjoy performing LIVE !
We're delighted that our celebration fundraiser summer concert will finally be happening in person in the beautiful private garden at Greenwich Carers Centre on Saturday 17th July from 11am (booking essential).
Your generosity last year created a wonderful fundraising effort around the online Practice Marathon concerts and made a huge contribution to the Bursary scheme over the past, challenging year. The fund currently helps over 43 students to learn music with GMS, who might otherwise not have the opportunity to do so, due to financial hardship.
Its amazing learning music with GMS - the teachers explain every note. I chose guitar lessons for Junior Musicians and it feels kind of good to be the first one in my family to learn a musical instrument. (new Bursary student)
During recent months, applications have outstripped the available funds - two to three applications are received each week from families who receive Universal Credit. Demand for support has gone up 400% since the beginning of 2020. We rely on your donations to help more children access the life-changing benefits of music education.
I found Greenwich Music School and was so pleased to find the offer of the Bursary Fund scheme to help with the lesson costs as it wouldn't be possible otherwise, especially with the current situation which has been difficult. I have been really impressed with the quality of the teaching at GMS (new parent)
With your generous help, we hope to support as many new students as possible from the beginning of the new term in September 2021 and continue being able to support those who have recently started learning music through our Bursary Fund scheme, so they can progress with their learning.
I started to play music in lockdown and I got my electric keyboard. The thing I like about music lessons is that you can make your own music! When I play music I can relax and I have made lots of friends. (new Bursary student)
Thank you so much for your support on this mission!
Playing music together, learning, improving, performing and listening to our friends is what makes music such an important part of life for us all. The last 18 months, under the pandemic restrictions, have made us all value creative experience and participation more than ever. We want music education to be as inclusive as possible and accessible to all.
We have been able to support students to start learning music in 2020-2021 for the first time during the lockdowns and many have spoken to us about the great pleasure and positive benefits music education has meant for them personally
The school has been very supportive with helping us to fund the lessons with the Bursary fund, as lockdown was very difficult. (new parent)
The children have made more progress online in individual lessons during 3 months with GMS than in a whole year of their previous school group tuition! I just wouldn't be able to afford lessons without the support of the Bursary Fund (new parent)
Junior Musicians is more complicated than Discover Music, but much better, I enjoy it much more. I am learning lots more now and I definitely want to carry on learning the guitar (new Bursary student)
