Story
GCBCs membership is growing rapidly, becoming one of the largest student societies at Girton. This Michaelmas term we had three senior womens boats, two senior mens boats, and four novice boats out on the river.
As the club has grown so quickly, GCBC does not have sufficient resources to support all these members many of whom have never rowed before. The womens side is in need of an additional boat for the top VIII to ensure that there are enough boats for everyone to experience rowing. Girton has always strived to make the sport accessible by giving every student the opportunity to take part and compete.
In order to address this urgent need, were launching our fundraising campaign for a new womens VIII with this Ergathon starting on the 29th of January 2022 at 7pm.
The Ergathon aims to raise £5,000 towards the cost of the new womens VIII (a new VIII costs around £25,000 in total), which will be matched £1 for £1 by the Boat Club meaning that whatever you choose to donate in the 24 hours of the Ergathon will be worth double!
The event will be held in the John Marks Sports Pavilion at Girton and also livestreamed so you can get involved no matter where you are. Over the 24 hours GCBC will be constantly erging to raise money, with the help of some special college guests.
