Imagine as a young person not having the love and support of your family and friends around you. Particularly to guide you through some of the most important decisions of your life. Finding yourself without a home, without protection and without a sense of belonging.
Overwhelmingly, for many young people across Edinburgh, this is their everyday reality. The single largest reported cause of homelessness amongst single people under 25 was relationship breakdown with family, friends or partner. Leaving many young people alone and vulnerable.
Our Stopover service provides supported accommodation for young people aged 16-25 who are homeless. Each young person has their own keyworker who offers support to develop the skills and confidence they need to move on to a more secure and happy future in a home within a community. Residents can stay for up to two years or until suitable housing becomes available.
Stopover is moving to a new premises and we want to make it welcoming, beautiful and practical because whilst the young people live here, its their home. We want to provide appealing communal spaces where the young people meet to learn, relax and socialise.
Your support can make our young people feel valued; give them a safe and engaging space; encourage them to try new things; and provide an area that supports staff to engage with young people.
