Environment a focus for Harrogate Town AFC Community Foundation

Activities, workshops and community based activities are set to be delivered across Harrogate and District as Harrogate Town AFC Community Foundation look to spread the message around Environmental Sustainability.

Along with charities three main objectives: Improving health and wellbeing, connecting communities and enhancing life chances - three focus areas have been identified. The first is Environmental Sustainability, following World Environment Day that took place on Monday 6th June.

Strong partnerships have already been formed with Zero Carbon Harrogate and Harrogate Climate Change Coalition, both local charities. Together with Harrogate Town AFC, the aim is to use our combine reach to raise awareness of the importance of environmental issues that are key to safeguarding the planet for future generations. Iain Service, Head of Foundation for Harrogate Town AFC Community Foundation explains,

We have an opportunity across the work that we do, to raise awareness of key issues and ones that mean so much to residents in Harrogate and across the UK! Within the charity and the organisations previously mentioned, we will look to deliver a number of events and activities that will help raise awareness of the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the little things we can do that will make a big difference.

Continued efforts will look to;

- Communicate with our participants, partners and local organisations about the importance of environmental sustainability.

- Deliver assemblies, activations and engagement sessions to local Primary Schools

- Support local and national campaigns for example Harrogate - Walk to School Day, plus matchday activations at HTAFC

- Deliver social action projects, involving a cross-section of participants from young to old

- Further establish and develop our pledge and commitment to environmental sustainability across all our operations.

- Assist to further raise awareness of key environmental issues using our reach and support base, linked to the UN Sustainable Development Goals

To help us kickstart this area of focus we are taking part in this years Knaresborough Bed Race, where the theme is all about re-using and recycling.
