Fourteen Champlain students, over the course of the year, will collaborate with a group of Tuscans from the town of Campiglia Marittima to recreate a local tale about a group of spiritualists. The idea for the film is based on a real life story from the Campiglia of 1887 and was suggested by our chief Italian partner who wrote an article about this happening. The students will work with their Tuscan counterparts in the fall semester to script the idea, all dialogue will be in Italian, into a cinematic narrative and prepare the work for shooting. Our students will travel to Campiglia Marittima from December 26th to January 10th for the shooting stage of the project and the post-production stage will take place in Burlington. Before January 10th, the group will screen a rough cut of the project to the Campigliesi community in order to celebrate the endeavor. This is a rare opportunity for students to create a film a world away. The American and Italo team start with nothing but the idea then make it physical. They will be cast, costume, make-up, set design, light, sound record, shoot, edit and much more during this time.
