Story
Every day families in Jersey face uncertainty and huge worry when caring for a sick child. Often the child needs specialist or emergency treatment away from home. We are here to support them on their journey, by providing practical, emotional and financial support at a time they need it most.
In the majority of cases, a sick child requires longer-term treatment which can range from a few times a week or month to many times a year for the rest of their life. The added stress of receiving treatment away from your familiar setting and without your loved ones at a time when you need them the most, adds to the emotional and financial strain on a family already in distress. This is where our Family Liaison Manager, Cheryl and Family Support Worker, Jess are able to remove some of the worry. They support our families with knowledge of travel and accommodation in the UK as well as the hospitals and staff they will be visiting, requesting financial support from charities and the Government of Jersey, and acting as a signpost to where information is at hand. They are also the family's main point of contact in Jersey whilst they are away.
Family First is the only charity in Jersey supporting families in this coordinated approach; in many cases vulnerable families, who are ineligible for statutory support, rely solely on us. Without our support, these families have nowhere else to go. The impact of the global pandemic (which only served to increase the complexity, cost and stress experienced by our families) is still being felt and our service is in demand more than ever before.
Your donation today means we can be there for all families in crisis. Any money received will support families in Jersey caring for a sick child who needs treatment away from home.

The support we received was second to none.
I can't thank them enough for the support they've given us with our two babies.
THANK YOU.
