Story
Albert Einstein College of Medicine's role as an expert research and educational institution in the Bronx, one of the poorest congressional districts in the United States, creates an environment where cutting-edge science intersects with a population greatly impacted by this pandemic. Our bench-to-bedside synergy with Montefiore Health System brings our scientists' findings to the clinical setting at unmatched speed, allowing us to stand on the frontlines of COVID-19. Below is a sampling of the innovative studies happening in Einstein laboratories, which will have an immense impact on long-term public health:
- Development of a convalescent serum from the plasma of patients who have recovered from COVID-19 by Einstein alumna Liise-anne Pirofski, MD '82
- Creation of biological therapeutics and vaccines against the virus by emerging pandemic disease expert Kartik Chandran, PhD
-Translation of HIV and CMV therapies to solve for COVID-19 treatment by Steven Almo, PhD, and Harris Goldstein, MD
We are training the next generation of medical professionals in the most innovative ways possible through digital learning, on-the-ground training, and more. We are proud of the role we play in developing doctors and researchers when the world needs them most.
These scientists and students are the people propelling discovery for COVID-19, and they need your support. Your contribution will directly benefit high-need COVID-19 investigations and medical education initiatives.
