Story
The Eastgate Theatre team is looking forward to the day, later this year, when this wonderful building in the heart of Peebles can open its doors once again as an exciting, safe, community space where everyone - local residents, friends and visitors - will meet for coffee and chat, take part in well-distanced creative activities, and (eventually) enjoy the unmatchable thrill of live performances and new films in the theatre.
It's a big challenge, however: more than 70% of the Eastgate's funding comes from members of the public making use of the theatre, studio and cafe every day of the week. With the doors closed for three months last year during refurbishment, and closed again this year due to coronavirus, this earned income has fallen dramatically, and the Eastgate no longer has reserves to draw on. It will not be able to open its doors without significant financial help.
The aim of this campaign is to invite donations that will enable the theatre to adapt and innovate in the way it delivers classes, showcases events, creates pop-up entertainments, and re-shapes the cafe into a more spacious and relaxed, safe space for everyone to enjoy. By making a contribution, and helping secure the future of the Eastgate, you will not only enrich your own life but also make a real difference to people of all ages, abilities, interests and ambitions in Peebles, Tweeddale and the south of Scotland in the years ahead.
