East Africa is facing its worst food crisis for decades, following four years of failed harvests, erratic rainfall and rocketing global food prices. Up to 20 million people in Kenya, Somalia and Ethiopia are facing extreme hunger every day, with severe malnutrition amongst infants and young children.

Women and girls are bearing the brunt of the emergency, with families, particularly women, missing meals and taking children - especially girls - out of school. Women are travelling much longer distances to find food and water, often putting themselves at risk of sexual violence and exploitation.
