Story
COVID-19 has come to Somaliland. We do not have testing equipment, so it is impossible to know how many cases there are, but Edna Adan is reporting significant numbers of patients arriving at the Edna Adan Hospital with fever, coughs, and other symptoms associated with COVID-19. The hospital needs basic protective equipment for their staff, who are not used to working with highly infectious diseases (they are maternity doctors and nurses!), as well as test kits, ventilators, and more basic equipment and medicines for responding to this pandemic.
Your help is urgently needed. We aim to raise at least £100,000 to support Edna Adan Hospital and, through the Somaliland COVID-19 Appeal, other health facilities in Somaliland to respond.
UPDATE: With the first £5000 we have raised, plus another £7000 of our reserves, we have placed our first order of personal protective equipment (PPE) including face masks, hand sanitizer, and protective gowns. All goods have been purchased in China and are on their way to Hargeisa. We still need your help to keep these essential items coming! We urgently need to purchase latex gloves, cannulae, shoe coverings, and ventilators.
We thank you in advance for your help in this difficult time, and hope that you and your loved ones remain safe and well, wherever you are.
