Story

One day, COVID-19 will pass, but the devastating effects of Duchenne muscular dystrophy will remain.

The COVID-19 pandemic has decimated our fundraising income, but the demand for our life-changing support has increased exponentially.

Duchenne is a severe, life-limiting muscle wasting condition, which affects the heart and lungs and is 100% fatal. With a life-expectancy of only 30 years old, the families of these precious children and young people living with Duchenne are in crisis. Each of the 2,500 affected children are considered in the extremely vulnerable section of the UK community.

We are providing a life-line of support, information and hope to these families in their darkest times. Their fear is unprecedented, since many of their children require breathing apparatus to simply survive, the threat of the COVID-19 hangs heavily over these brave parents heads. They are desperate for our help, support, sometimes just a shoulder to cry on.

But, our charity is suffering, we stand to lose £150,000 in income from cancelled fundraising events this summer alone. As a small charity, we simply cannot afford to lose such monumental amounts, and still continue to deliver the vital work to our community.

Please help us during our toughest months. Set up a fundraiser within your local community, with your friends online or get sponsorship for your daily exercise hour. Whatever you choose to do, thank you for your financial support to help us keep serving our incredible community.

Our appeal video

The Covid-19 pandemic is having a huge impact on every area of our lives. Now, more than ever, our life-saving work becomes even more crucial for the Duchenne community.

Our small team here at Action Duchenne are dedicating every waking moment to ensure that your questions are answered, that we are sharing the most up to date information and advice, and that we continue to provide a life-line of support to everybody living with Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

We are already seeing an extensive impact on our operations and our ability to raise vital funds, coupled with an exponential increase in demand for our support services.

In the next 6 months alone we are facing unexpected losses of income of nearly £150,000 due to the cancellation of events and fundraising activities.

Please DONATE NOW so we can not only survive this unprecedented challenge, but most importantly direct our work to the areas where our community needs us most.

Please urge your friends and colleagues to support our appeal for donations. YOU have the power to help us widen our essential work across the Duchenne community here in the United Kingdom.
