Story
Wetwheels provides the opportunity for all disabled people, including those with profound and complex disabilities, to access the sea in a safe, stimulating and rewarding way on board specially-built, fully-accessible powerboats.
By offering the opportunity to experience the sea not just as passengers, but as active participants we build confidence and improve physical and mental wellbeing. The Wetwheels concept was developed and pioneered by disabled adventurer, Geoff Holt MBE DL, and is proven to be highly successful.
"There is something very special about being on the water. For someone with a disability, being at sea offers unparalleled freedoms. Your mind and imagination fill with things that once didn't seem possible."
The pandemic caused a major collapse in the level of donations going to Wetwheels and so DeckFest 2021 is raising money to enable Wetwheels Foundation to get more people with disabilities to experience the thrill of going to sea.
When one of the Wetwheels boats visited Sovereign Harbour last month, for some of the disabled participants that went on the boat it was the first time they had left their care home in 18 months. Imagine how the last 18 months must have been for those people with disabilities that had to shield so much longer than the rest of us. Then imagine the positive effect a trip out on a Wetwheels boat has on them
This year there are 16 talented Musicians, who manifest themselves into 3 Bands and 2 Solo Artists, who are all performing Multiple Sets of "live" music, across many music genres and from across the last 7 decades. The music starts at 1:00pm until late and irrespective of your music genre preferences, there will be something for everyone..... as every song that is played you will know.
Every Musician performing at DeckFest 2021 has donated their services free of charge, but in return are seeking donations, whereby 100% will go to The Wetwheels Foundation.
