We are a residential hospital that provides holistic care to 30 residents and over 150 outpatients that suffer from Hansen's disease (leprosy) in Guayaquil, Ecuador. As the only clinic that treats Hansen´s patients in Ecuador, our doctor and nursing staff allow them to live full and dignified lives.
Story
This year Damien House is celebrating its 25-year anniversary. We are kicking off our celebration this December 3rd for Giving Tuesday. We are excited to show everyone how this neglected wing of the Infectious Disease Hospital in Guayaquil, Ecuador has been transformed into not only a home, but a safe haven for all Hansens Disease patients in Ecuador. It all started with some invested volunteers and friends that wanted to make a difference. Quickly they saw that change was possible. The friends turned into donors, which allowed for the volunteers to turn into employees. The walls covered by piled up trash then turned into murals. The open spaces then turned into offices, wound care facilities, kitchens, and art rooms. The sunken flood prone floors then turned into handicap accessible patios. And the patients then turned into our family. Everyone that has walked through our doors has been invited into our family. It is only through the family like help and support that we have been able to create the sanctuary that our residents now call home. Today we want to recognize all of those that have supported over the past 25 years and remind you that your are all in our hearts and prayers.
