Story
Glenelg Country School's Gould Observatory houses a research-grade EDF Refractor Telescope, generously donated to the school in honor of our founders. Thanks to this gift, our students have the unique opportunity to explore the wonders of our universe, opening up more doors into the fields of science and mathematics.
Since reopening in 2021 after renovations, the observatory has hosted students from all divisions. Most recently, our third graders visited the observatory and viewed the sun through a special filter. Upper School Astronomy students, led by physics teacher Krystal Rolon, are learning to serve as observatory guides during these visits and during evening stargazing parties open to the entire community.
The motor that opens and closes the dome needs some routine repairs in order to stay in good working order and continue serving our students and community.
