Story
Nkume Primary School is an overcrowded, understaffed and under-resourced school serving 800 South African children. While serving these students, Professor Michele Hancock and Carthage students and recent grads tackle three main challenges facing the Nkume Primary School community: sanitation, teacher education, and business education. After contacting the school and asking THEM what they needed, Carthage students worked together to meet these needs. They were able to repurpose desks, refurbish four existing water tanks, install two new 5,000 liter tanks, construct a playground, and create more classroom spaces. In addition to these improvements, the Carthage team provided e-writers to all grade level students, which were then used to teach lessons in math and English. They also provide numerous instructional toys and materials to help the Nkume students grow.
Nkume Primary School and these Carthage students need our help again. Make your gift to support our students efforts, and the primary school students from Nkume Primary School.
