Story
CURRENT SITUATION:
India is in the grip of a second deadly coronavirus wave. People desperate for medical care are struggling to get access to oxygen whilst the current infrastructure cannot cope with the sheer demand for medical care and attention. This pandemic is causing mass devastation to so many both young and old and especially the vulnerable. Hospitals cannot cope with the volume of patients, countless people are dying and the scenes are horrific and unbelievable.
The magnitude of the pandemic is huge and increasing daily and it is critical that preventive work is scaled up in order to protect people from COVID.
HOW CAN YOU HELP?
After reviewing the situation in India and speaking with people who are able to provide help on the ground, we have decided to partner with local NGOs who are able to provide support at a grassroots level. These organisations have built trust with local communities over decades and have a proven track record of supporting local communities.
We believe that this is best way for us to have a long lasting effect on people in India during the Covid-19 pandemic.
OUR FIRST PROJECT - 51 OXYGEN CONCENTRATORS:
Nishkam SWAT have purchased 51 hospital grade 10 litre oxygen concentrator units at a cost of £1340 each. These are arriving with our partners this week and will be deployed immediately. They will provide relief to those who desperately require oxygen to assist them with respiratory issues free of charge to help all those in need regardless of religion or background.
WE ARE SUPPORTING:
1. SGPC, Amritsar - The SGPC is setting Covid response centres in Amritsar, Ludhiana and Damdama Sahib.
2. ACTION VILLAGE INDIA (AVI) - is a UK based organisation (Est 1989). They have been supporting Indian partner organisations who work alongside villagers in some of the most remote parts of rural India so they can improve their lives, livelihoods and resilience. Their partners have previously responded to other crises in the past such as the Tsunami, floods in Kerala, Cyclone Fani in Odisha, we recognise that they urgently need resources in the fight against Covid-19. They have been allocated 39 oxygen concentrator units.
3. IAH Foundation - Oxygen Langar at Gurudwara Behala in Kolkata. These Kolkata based volunteers have been providing langar for all communities for the last year. Recently they have extended this outreach to provide Free oxygen to Covid patients.
