Story
Cumberland FA have been working in partnership with Every Life Matters who promote suicide safer communities and provide bereavement support across Cumbria.
Andrea Buggy Trophy
The Cumberland FA Womens League in 2022 will once again be playing in memory of Andrea Buggy and to raise awareness of Every Life Matters, a Cumbrian suicide prevention and suicide bereavement support charity.
Football was a huge part of Andreas life, playing for numerous Womens teams and coaching within the local grassroots network.
In 2021 20 teams across 3 divisions in the Cumberland County League and 7 teams in the womens league played for the Andrea Buggy Trophy. As well as honouring her memory, her life and her love of the game; by playing for the Andrea Buggy Trophies, it raised the awareness of the charity and increased the conversations around mental health and wellbeing across the grassroots community. The Cumberland County League were keen to support the campaign as Andreas husband David has been a referee within the league for a number of years.
Fred Conway, Chairman of Cumberland FA and the Cumberland County League commented;
We were delighted to support the Andrea Buggy Trophy last season while raising awareness of suicide prevention with Every Life Matters, Cumbria. As a County FA we will continue to support this to encourage more conversations regarding mental health and wellbeing, reaching further across the grassroots community.
Each team involved in the Andrea Buggy Womens League, supported by Every Life Matters will be provided with details of the local organisation which provides awareness, support and training across the County.
