Story
We are asking the AIA community to assist us in raising funds for an upcoming project to support an NYC community-based organization, the BRC Clyde Burton House. We realize that this is at a time when you are frequently asked to contribute to a variety of worthy causes, so we appreciate you considering this important organization. Anything you can give no matter the size will surely be appreciated!
About BRC
BRC is among New York City's leading nonprofit organizations providing caring and effective services and housing to vulnerable New Yorkers, serving more than 10,000 individuals each year. BRC operates 30 programs and services throughout New York City, ranging from outreach to the unsheltered homeless to transitional housing and shelter, permanent housing, substance abuse treatment, mental and physical health services, workforce development, and senior services.
Founded in 1971, BRC is commemorating its 50th Anniversary by continuing to serve more than 3,000 of New York City's most vulnerable each day. BRC is on the frontlines of poverty and public health, providing life-saving services to New Yorkers experiencing homelessness, from outreach to the unsheltered, to temporary shelter, permanent housing, substance abuse treatment, and physical and mental health care provision.
Your efforts will support the following:
BRC Clyde Burton House in the lower east side of Manhattan is a permanent single-room housing (SRO) facility for 33 formerly homeless men and women over the age of 55. In addition to providing permanent housing for its tenants, Clyde Burton House offers a variety of services aimed at helping clients maintain their independence and build a community of support among peers, including case management, medication monitoring, referrals to medical facilities, health education, psychiatric management, entitlement support and money management, recreational activities, assistance with activities of daily living and free meals.
In an effort to provide our senior residents with a private, safe, outdoor space, we hope to create a small, rooftop oasis. Already equipped with a small deck, our goal is to install permanent seating, shade from the elements, and a small urban garden for herbs and flowers. With current support from AIA and Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates, as well as a partnership with Design Advocates, a beautiful design has been created; we simply need the proper funds to bring this sanctuary to our clients.
