Story
After developing laminitis as a result of an infection after foaling in 2020, Brandy was left in pain and waiting to die, in a stable with her foal, with her 4 pedal bones exposed and infected, until a visitor to the stables, Muriel, asked if she could try to help her.
With step-by-step guidance from The Laminitis Site and hours of care and trimming from Muriel, Brandy's feet returned to a more normal shape and level of comfort, and once her foal was old enough to be weaned, Brandy went to live Muriel. For two years Brandy has been living a quality life, grazing and running with Muriel's other horses. However, her front feet, particularly her right fore, have continued to suffer bone loss and periods of infection, with increasing discomfort, despite protection with boots and pads and treatment with Cleantrax soaks, topical antibiotics, medical honey and regional limb perfusion.
Brandy is only 14 years old, and such a sweet, brave, gentle horse - she and Muriel have fought hard to get this far and we don't want to give up without trying everything possible to keep Brandy comfortable.
Brandy's last chance may be maggot debridement therapy. She has had one treatment, after which she was happy to trot, but the infection did not fully resolve and now she needs further treatments and new x-rays. With your help we hope that Brandy can continue to live her best life, with forage, freedom, friends - and free from pain.
