Story
Blackpool, more famous for its tramway, began operating bus services in July 1921 and so 2021 is its 100th anniversary year. To mark the occasion we want to restore of its unique survivors to road - bus 346, one of fifty Leyland PD2 buses built for the town between 1957 and 1959.
No.346 is the sole survivor and last carried passengers in 1974. It owes its survival to being passed to the Illuminations department for use as a transporter for illuminated tablueux with a workers mess room on the upper deck.
Some restoration work on bus 346 started in 2015 but then paused until 2020. We need to raise over £10,000 if we are going to complete the work and purchase all the necessary materials to complete the project ready for Blackpool's bus centenary. The work includes repanelling, new seats and seat upholstery, engine servicing and a radiator overhaul, culminating in a complete repaint inside and out.
Please help us get this bus back on the road for Blackpool 100 and recreate a type of bus that has not carried passengers in Blackpool for over 46 years!
