Story
The Big Sleep Out aims to raise £100,000 between now and the end of January 2023 to help prevent homelessness. The question we often get asked is "what will CCP do with £100,000"?
The cost of living crisis is already fuelling homelessness and Gloucestershire will be no exception. That's why we're aiming to raise £100,000 which will be used to provide:
emergency financial support, and debt, housing and benefit advice for people on the brink of homelessness
family support services to keep families together and supported
emergency food parcels & our Community Pantry project for those living in poverty
supported housing for 16 25 year olds who would otherwise be homeless
reaching out to homeless people to help get them back into accommodation
much more...
According to the latest research from Crisis, the cost of living is already fuelling homelessness, while this article and this article in the BBC, this one in The Guardian, and this one from the Joseph Rowntree Foundation help put a number on its impact.
To put it in perspective so far this year:
Rough sleeping is up 21% in London
Families with dependent children becoming homeless rose by 23.6% through the year
Almost 8m people in the UK struggling to pay bills
4.2 million people had missed bills or loan payments in the last six months
14.5 million people of the UK population (22%) are living in poverty.
The Big Sleep Out will make a difference in our corner of the world, bringing together 100 individuals to fundraise for us. Thank you.
