Story
In 2020, the Illinois Domestic Violence Hotline received over 20 calls from the 60010 ZIP code. The actual number is likely higher due to those who didnt give their address.
The Barrington Survivors Fund provides domestic violence survivors from Barrington, who call the WINGS hotline, with the following resources:
- emergency housing through a hotel-based model, including meals and supplies,
- counseling,
- transportation assistance to flee a dangerous situation, attend job interviews, go to benefits appointments, address health concerns, or get groceries and supplies.
Emergency rooms are often the first point of care for domestic violence victims. Recognizing the need to meet survivors at this point is critical. Therefore, a portion of the Barrington Survivors Fund provides training to medical professionals, at medical institutions in Barrington, on the prevalence of domestic violence, WINGS services, and effective ways to screen patients for domestic violence.
The Fund will also be utilized for projects arising at WINGS Barrington Transitional Home. Providing a well-maintained house, reinforces families, who have suffered the trauma of domestic violence, that they are worthy to live in a non-abusive home.
