Story
Generosity, service, and friendship are the core values that were woven throughout Angela Chasey's life. This was evident in her career, as she made lasting friendships with many co-workers during both her early career in public service, where she served in the administrations of several statewide elected officials and later during her career in philanthropy, where she identified and secured funding for critical programs at several Fort Wayne non-profits. These qualities were also tangible in Angie's personal life, where she was highly attuned to the needs of her many family and friends and was always ready with support and encouragement.
Angie's career culminated at the Parkview Foundation where she served as Director of Grants and Administration and then Director of Leadership Gifts from 2015-2020. Her work at the Foundation strengthened her passion for generosity, and she championed innovative research and community programs that directly benefited Parkview patients.
When Angie became a patient herself after she was diagnosed with a rare type of ovarian cancer in 2019, these values again shone through as she sought to comfort family and friends and immersed herself in integrative approaches that could strengthen her body and compliment her treatments. When the cancer recurred in 2020, she continued to try integrative approaches to complement her treatments. During the two years of treatments, she and her devoted husband Ryan became fixtures at the Parkview Cancer Institute. Angie was well-known by the staff for her kind smile, new books and research on integrative cancer treatment, and the essential oils she always carried with her to calm her nerves.
Her strength in facing the cancer diagnosis inspired many of Angie's family and friends to improve their own health by using the integrative approaches she championed. During her illness, many of those closest to her improved their health through better nutrition, regular exercise, mediation, and relaxation techniques as they heard Angie regularly speak about the benefits. As a result, her family and friends became healthier, lost weight, and, in some cases, even received early diagnoses of serious health challenges so they were able to take proactive action. It is this positive impact on others that the Angela Chasey Memorial Fund will continue in her name, as the fund supports patients and their families, cancer research, and education with an emphasis on holistic or integrative approaches. Through programs supported by this fund, Angie's spirit of generosity, service, and friendship will live on.
