Story
Who do you turn to when times get tough?
Your partner, perhaps. Or your family and closest friends. The people you can rely on. The people who are always there for you.
Imagine if you had no one to turn to.
No one to ask when you just don't know what to do next. No one to be there for you when you're facing a crisis. No one to talk to when you're feeling desperately lonely.
Now, more than ever, Age UK Croydon needs your help this Festive Season. The past year has presented us with challenges none of us expected. It has been a time of great anxiety for everyone, but especially for older people and their loved ones. We are determined to be there for older people who need our help and especially for those who have no one else to turn to. By donating to Age UK Croydon this Festive Season, you will help us to reach the older people that need us most.
Loneliness and older people (1)
- The number of over-50s experiencing loneliness is set to reach two million by 2025/6 - a 49% increase in 10 years
- Half a million older people go at least five or six days a week without seeing or speaking to anyone at all
- Well over half of those aged 85 and over a third of those aged 75 to 84 live alone
- Almost 4 million older people say the television is their main company
You can help
With the Governments recommendations on social distancing, particularly for those aged 70+, our local telephone and digital services have never been more in demand. Help us to keep them going this Christmas. Your donation could be used to help us to:
£500 could fund tablets and wifi connectivity for five isolated older people
£100 could fund additional events and activities over the Christmas period
£50 enables us to train volunteers as part of our digital inclusion service, who help get older people online and connected to their families
£20 pays for 10 resistance bands to help keep a group of older people active
£15 pays for Zoom licences for one month to host digital socialising sessions
£10 helps allow an isolated and vulnerable older person to receive a home visit
£5 will help fund a phone call to an isolated older person
