Story
British Exploring Society
British Exploring Society is a world class youth development charity with a unique heritage, founded on the belief that challenging experiences can change lives, empowering and equipping young people with the courage, skills, resilience and determination to make the most of their future.
We prepare and take young people on expeditions to remote locations where they face challenges, gain skills and learn about themselves – as well as acquiring knowledge relevant to their lives and to the fragile environments that they explore.
The results are transformative – not just in terms of practical skills and resilience, but in a new-found confidence and self-belief which they carry forward to their future life.
More than this, through their adventure together, our young people forge friendships for life and become part of a unique supportive and continuing community of explorers with shared experiences, values and perspectives on the world.
Development Board 90k Challenge
Over the next couple of months, some members of our Development Board, who have split themselves into three teams with their friends and colleagues, will be taking on three unique challenges with the overall aim of raising £90,000 for British Exploring Society.
Team Peaks: In September, Tim Passingham and Jon Slade’s team will be climbing 30,000 metres of ascent (3,000 metres per person) over a single weekend in the Lake District.
The Crossing of Knoydart: Also in September, Arabella Connell and Carlotta Newbury’s team are undertaking a three-day adventure to cross Knoydart Peninsula on the West coast of Scotland, which will see them cover over 30km and 5,400 feet of ascent.
Urban Challenge: Led by Rahul Moodgal and Stuart Denard, the Urban Challenge team are undertaking a breath-taking challenge in August through the heart of London, which will include a speedboat from Embankment to Canary Wharf, a run from Stratford to Greenwich Peninsula and a climb of the O2 Arena.
100% of your donation will go towards supporting British Exploring Society and our work in delivering transformative, outdoor experiences to young people aged 16-25.
