Help our Scout Group raise money to buy a defibrillator for our local community

Our Beavers, Cubs and Scouts have set themselves a challenge to complete a 4000 mile virtual walk around the coast of England and Wales. This is to raise money to buy a defibrillator for our local community

Story

About us...

8th Penwortham Scout Group delivers the scouting experience to boys and girls aged 6-18. We have 3 sections within our Group: Beavers, Cubs and Scouts.

We were founded in 1970 and over the years many hundreds of children from all different backgrounds, disabilities and ethnicities have benefited from the skills/program that Scouting and the Group has provided. Our aim is to teach young people skills to succeed in life.

8th Penwortham Scout Group is a charitable Group manned entirely by volunteers. We have at present 20 Leaders, 10 Young Leaders and 100 Scouts within the sections and are funded entirely by subscriptions and fundraising activities

Commemorating our semicentennial...

2020 is the 50th Anniversary of our Scout Group. To celebrate this milestone we are raising money to purchase and maintain a defibrillator for our local community. It will be sited at St Teresa's Social Centre, Queensway, Penwortham. This busy, thriving hub is home to our Scout Group, St Teresa's Church, St Teresa's Social Centre, the local football teams, the monthly Farmer's market, Weightwatchers and Slimming World Groups and the many varied groups that hire the Social Centre/Scout Hut. The defibrillator will benefit all these groups along with the local residents of Penwortham.

Start a Heart - Walk for Life...

To celebrate our 50 year anniversary, our Beavers, Cubs and Scouts set themselves the challenge to complete a 4000 mile virtual walk around the coast of England & Wales. All the miles walked during the section meetings are logged and plotted on a map by the Scouts. The challenge started in January 2020 and during the period January to March we completed the Lancashire and Cumbrian coastline, progressed across the Scottish boarder and into Northumberland. Unfortunately, our Scouting activities were paused in March due to the current pandemic. Our Scouting activities resumed again in September and we once again put on our Scouting boots!

Our progress so far...

From January to March, our Beavers, Cubs and Scouts worked tirelessly and raised an incredible £1000 by bucket collections.

Unfortunately, we are unable to fundraise face to face at the present time. We are hopeful that we will be able to continue with face to face fundraising in the future.

However, until that time we are continuing our challenge with Just Giving.

We are asking you to support our Beavers, Cubs and Scouts by making a donation to help us achieve our target.

It is part of the Scouting ethos to care for others and all our members are aware of the importance of helping our local community. All sections will be rewarded with the Community Impact badge when our mission is completed.
