Wilson was born prematurely at 30 weeks in January 2016. At 13 months he was diagnosed with Periventricular Leukomalacia (PVL) a brain injury which is common in premature babies and which led to his diagnosis of quadriplegic cerebral palsy. He has difficulties with muscle control, balance and co-ordination. He has spasticity in his body which means that simple things such as sitting without support, crawling or walking is extremely difficult for him and he is unable to do all of these on his own.]
An extra £60,000 is required for Wilsons family to be able to travel to St Louis, USA and visit the pioneering Dr Park, for life-changing Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR) surgery which may give him the chance to walk unaided one day.
SDR is unfortunately not available for Wilson in the UK but world leading paediatric neurosurgeon Dr T S Park at the St Louis Childrens Hospital in Missouri believes that Wilson would be a great candidate for the surgery. The money raised will pay for the surgery, aftercare, a prolonged course of physiotherapy and any specialist equipment he might need over the next three years.
On May 30th, 2019 the Matt Haycox Foundation £60k in 60 minutes London Eye fundraiser is taking place. Within 60 minutes (two rotations of the London Eye), auctions, prize giveaways and social media appeals are taking place with the aim of raising the £60k for Wilson.
