Story
TBF, more formally known as The Bimiri Foundation, is a small Scottish based charity making big changes in the village of Bimiri, located East of Kathmandu in the Kavre district of Nepal.
The women and girls of Bimiri and many villages like it around Nepal and the rest of the world have to carry heavy loads of water from the nearest source, due to the lack of running water in the village. Sometimes this walk to fetch water must be done several times a day and takes hours of time.
For the last six years TBF have been fundraising for the construction of a 1.6km fresh water pipeline which now has water flowing into Bimiri, which is an incredible milestone we are all incredibly happy with, however we are not finished yet.
We now have a network of 18 taps installed around the village so that every home is within a 10m walk from a water source, rather than the several kilometres that used to be endured.
The next step of our project is to install a filtration system so that the water can be drunk straight from the taps, as up to now the water must be taken home and boiled before it is suitable to drink.
In order to raise these funds I will be putting myself through physical hell carrying 20 litres of water in the same wicker basket that the villagers normally use to carry water and asking the supporters of TBF to spare what they can to make my suffering worthwhile.
Wish me luck!
