Story
Be Active -> Give Plenty -> Help Islam
Ramadan is the month of intense activity, ranging from acts of worship to physical and mental exertion, despite avoiding food and drink during the day. There has never been a better time to train ourselves to become mentally sharp, physically active and spiritually strong, than in the month of Ramadan.
Many of the defining events in the history of Islam, requiring intense physical, mental and spiritual strength, happened in the month of Ramadan. Here are some examples:
§ Defeat of the Makkan Quraish by the Prophet (PBUH) in the Battle of Badr, saving the Muslim Ummah from extermination
§ Opening of Makkah by the Prophet (PBUH)
§ Opening of Andalusia by Tariq ibn Ziyad
§ Defeat of the Crusaders by Salahuddin in the Battle of Hattin, paving the way to open Jerusalem
§ Defeat of the Mongols by Sultan Qutuz in the Battle of Ain Jalut, saving the Muslim Ummah from extermination
The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said:
The strong believer is more beloved to Allah than the weak believer, but there is goodness in both of them. Be eager for what benefits you, seek help from Allah, and do not be frustrated. If something befalls you, then do not say: If only I had done something else. Rather say: Allah has decreed what he wills. Verily, the phrase if only opens the way for the work of Satan.
What is the 5000k Ramadan Challenge?
The goal is to collectively complete a distance of 5000 (five thousand) kilometers by partaking in one or more of the following physical activities during the month of Ramadan. The activities are:
§ walking
§ running
§ cycling
§ skating
§ cross-training
§ swimming
§ or any other outdoor or indoor activity where distance can be measured.
The participants ("heroes") can contribute kilometers through any of the above activities towards the 5000k Ramadan Challenge. This is the "Be Active" part of the challenge.
What is "Give Plenty -> Help Islam"?
We ask our heroes to inspire their family, friends and colleagues, and at the same time fundraise a suggested minimum of £250 through the whole month of Ramadan. We suggest raising £10 for every kilometer of activity but it should not discourage you from contributing more kilometers even if your fundraising target is lower. Of course you can contribute less kilometers and fundraise a lower amount if you wish.
Your fundraising efforts and your own contributions will go towards helping Islam, in this instance, Islamic education in the heart of the intellectual capital of the world - Cambridge.
Allah says in the Qur'an:
You who believe! If you help Allah, He will help you and make you stand firm.
Cambridge Islamic College is in need of support. Please help in the cause of Allah in the month of Ramadan and be among the mentally sharp, physically active and spiritually strong believers.
