Story
For the last 4 decades, the Housing Rights Committee of San Francisco has been fighting for the right to stay neighbor by neighbor, building by building and neighborhood by neighborhood. This year, along with rent control in San Francisco, we turn 40!
We know that housing is a human right, however for too many everyday people living in one of the most expensive rental markets in the world it doesn't always feel like that. Too many tenants don't know their rights and end up leaving their homes, paying an unjust rent increase, or enduring unhealthy living conditions. Additionally, we are losing existing affordable units to speculators flipping them to luxury rentals and leaving a trail of evictions and displacement.
So many evictions are 100% preventable, and we are on the frontlines of ensuring that no one is evicted because they didn't know what their rights were.
Our counselors ensure that tenants have a highly skilled support system at their backs when they decide to fight for their rights free of cost and in 4 different languages. Our organizing works to build the power of working-class tenants and expand the rights we have to respond to the crisis and build the San Francisco we all deserve.
We have done so much in our last 40 years and are just getting started! Will you stand with us and help celebrate our 40th anniversary with a gift of $40 dollars?
Thank you for ensuring we start this new decade strong, and here's to many more years of tenant power and resilience.
