BANA was formed in 1992 by a group of patients and their partners, their primary aim was to mutually support each other. They also wanted to provide reliable information to those diagnosed and to promote research into Acoustic Neuroma and the effects associated with them. In 1997, a Lottery Grant helped BANA to move into much-needed premises in Nottinghamshire and employed their first member of staff.
BANA’s Charitable Objects
Assist and support people and their support networks who have been diagnosed as having or have been treated for an Acoustic Neuroma (Vestibular Schwannoma). Along with other related conditions.
Promote and support innovative medical research likely to lead to the prevention and early detection and successful treatment of Acoustic Neuroma along with procedures assisting in the rehabilitation and quality of life of people affected.
BANA supports our members with in person and online support groups nationwide, a closed Facebook page and a Conference annually. 1st July is the National Acoustic Neuroma Awareness Day and we encourage members to "wear something blue for BANA" to help start a conversation about Acoustic Neuroma. In 2023, we are launching #31days 4 BANA fundraising initiative as BANA needs to raise £40,000 per year from fundraising and donations to continue to provide the much needed services.
