UPDATE
Massive thanks to everyone who has donated and taken on their own challenges to support our 2.6 challenge. The campaign has been a huge success and we could not have done it without you!
One of our team, and past beneficiaries, has bravely decided to extend his challenge - he will be Tabbing (military jargon for fast paced walking with a weighted rucksack) until the 13th of August to raise a total of £3,150!
Ben started the challenge by Tabbing 5.2 km every day for 26 days to raise £1,000. Since achieving this he is going to complete a further 58 days and will be covering a total distance of 405.6 kms! Why you ask?? It costs £3,000 per beneficiary to take part in the WU Support Programme this year and when he reaches his target he will be supporting a veteran to benefit from the programme, like he has.
Check out his JustGiving Page to donate and for more information about his challenge and why he's supporting Waterloo Uncovered.
26 Miles for Waterloo Uncovered
As a result of Covid-19 we have had to cancel our Summer Excavation in Belgium, however, we have adapted our programme to be delivered online so that we can continue providing essential support to veterans and serving military personnel throughout the lockdown period and beyond. Like many charities, we are facing a period of uncertainty and we need your support more than ever.
On the 18th of June (the 205th anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo) a team of 10 members of the WU community will be completing a 26 mile march within 13 hours. Each person will march 2.6 miles, starting at 0515 and ending at 1815 that evening. Clive Jones, our long-time supporter, veteran of the Welsh Guards, and Napoleonic Reenactor, will be closing the challenge by completing the final 2.6 miles in his period accurate Coldstream Guards kit. We hope to raise £1,815 by the time Clive finishes his march at 1815 on the 18th!
Waterloo Uncovered is all about team spirit, and whilst we can't be together during this time, we can complete this challenge together! We hope you can support us by making a donation or fundraising for us. Funds will go directly towards our support of veterans and serving military personnel through our ground breaking archaeology project at the Waterloo Battlefield.
