Story
We know that listening to music, particularly live music, can have a wide range of health benefits for patients, staff and visitors. From elevating boredom to reducing pain, music can support positive mental and physical health and wellbeing. For our older patients, who maybe experiencing dementia or delirium, a musical interaction can provide a really enjoyable experience, stimulating memory and connection. We are particularly keen to engage with patients experiencing specific conditions including stroke at neurological and rehabilitation units.
With this in mind, we are working with art for life develop a regular, interactive music programme on the wards of Musgrove Park hospital. and eight community hospitals across the Trust. This interactive programme would be delivered by professional musicians experienced in delivering music in healthcare settings and experts in a range of instruments, styles and repertoire. These freelance musicians would be selected for their high quality performance and communication skills and would be offered a comprehensive induction to our settings. Sessions would be delivered to groups of patients (small bays) but also at bedside for individual patients.
