Story
Every year, LinkAble supports over 300 people with a learning disability, autistic people and their families through weekly groups, holiday schemes, and day trips.
We need to raise a lot of funds to keep supporting the families who rely on our services. For every hour delivered, we need to raise £27.52. This is in addition to the funding received from the local authority and the contribution parents/carers make through session fees.
With your help, we can raise £7000 to deliver 250 hours of inclusive, engaging and fun activities that people would struggle to access without our specially trained staff.
Where the money will go
We believe that everyone should have access to experiences that develop skills, confidence, and lasting friendships. People who attend our friendly groups have an incredible range of activities to choose from. These include practical skills such as managing finances and booking travel, to wellbeing activities such as time in our newly refurbished sensory room, or forest yoga classes!
With a team of passionate and highly trained staff, we ensure that every attendee’s support responds to their unique needs, preferences, and values. Team Link is highly skilled at engaging people with complex needs because we get to know each person as an individual.
Why hours matter
Social isolation is a devastating and sadly all too common problem for people with a learning disability and autistic people.
Research suggests that one in three young people with a learning disability spends less than one hour outside their home on a typical Saturday (Mencap, 2019). This can lead to loneliness and a lack of social connections, which can affect mental health and wellbeing.
Every hour of support we deliver reduces isolation and offers people the opportunity to make real friendships.
The impact of your support
You will enable children, young people and adults to access our welcoming community where they can feel safe and comfortable being themselves, with room to grow and develop at their own pace.
Whether you give a day, an hour or 15 minutes, your support will make a huge difference to people with a learning disability and autistic people in Woking and the surrounding area.
(On being at LinkAble) We're all different but the same, because I know I'm not the only one.- Will, adult group member.
Tom genuinely looks forward to his sessions at LinkAble and goes in with confidence and a smile. I always feel as if he is content to be surrounded by his 'tribe'. Nicky, mum to Tom.
