Story
Every child deserves a place to heal.
Right now, across the DC region, children are carrying the weight of losing someone they love. Some have lost a parent. Some a sibling. Some a grandparent who was their safe place. Many feel alone in their grief — unsure where to put their sadness, their anger, their questions, or their memories.
This summer, they will come together at Camp Forget‑Me‑Not/Camp Erin DC, a free grief camp where children can breathe with a little less stress. Here, they can laugh, cry, play, remember, and begin to heal — surrounded by people who understand what they’re going through.
For many campers, it’s the first time they meet another child who truly “gets it.” For caregivers, it’s a moment of relief in a journey that often feels overwhelming. For families, it’s a turning point — a place where hope begins to return.
For more than 25 years, the Wendt Center for Loss and Healing has offered this life‑changing experience at no cost. Trained volunteers walk beside each child. Licensed therapists lead age‑appropriate groups. And every activity — from group sessions to creating memory flags — is designed to help grieving children feel safe, supported, and seen.
More than 1,400 children have found comfort, connection, and healing at Camp. But we can only continue this work with your help.
Your generosity makes Camp possible. Please donate today so every grieving child has a place to heal, to be understood, and to feel hope again.
