Unearth Your Story: Summer Reading Readathon

Welcome to this year’s Boston Public Library Fund Summer Reading Readathon — a summer reading adventure rooted in discovery, imagination, and the stories that shape us.

This year's theme, Unearth Your Story, invites readers of all ages to dig into new books, uncover hidden interests, and brush off old favorites. Stories connect us to ourselves, each other, and the world — and from picture books to graphic novels, mysteries to memoirs, every page turned brings another to light.

By joining the Readathon, you are not only setting a personal reading goal — you are reading for a cause. Funds raised through the Readathon support youth summer reading and the Boston Public Library Fund’s work to expand access to learning, literacy, creativity, and opportunity across Boston’s neighborhoods.

Readers of every age are welcome — and caregivers, we invite you to sign up on behalf of your children, too!

Rules for Our Online Readathon

1. Choose Your Reading Goal: Decide how many books or hours you'll read this summer. Dig a little deeper, try a new genre, or unearth a story you'd never have picked up otherwise.

2. Set Your Fundraising Goal: Decide how much you'd like to raise. Supporters might give $5 per book, $1 per hour, or a flat gift of any amount.

3. Create Your Fundraising Page: Build your online fundraising page. Share what you're excited to read, the stories you hope to uncover, and why the Library matters to you.

4. Invite Donors: Reach out to friends, family, colleagues, and neighbors to sponsor your reading. Every gift — large or small — supports youth summer reading and brings the joy of discovery to more readers across Boston.

5. Track Your Progress: Keep supporters in the loop as you read. Share milestones, favorite finds, memorable characters, or surprising discoveries to inspire more giving.

6. Celebrate & Share: When you hit your goal, celebrate! Share on social media, thank your supporters, and invite others to join the Readathon or give in support of young readers.
