Story
Recognizing the important impact of including arts education throughout k-12 education, it is in fact mandated in the state of North Carolina. To meet that mandate, NC elementary schools where 40% or more of the student body is designated as economically disadvantaged are allowed to use some of their federal funding to work together with arts agencies that have expertise in their respective disciplines.
NC Arts in Action partners with Title 1 schools across the Triangle, providing exceptional quality arts education through a pedagogy that has been honed for over 30 years by the National Dance Institute (NDI). Our teaching artists receive on-going professional education from NDI, and the success of the program is independently evaluated.
The goals of our 16-week in-school residencies are:
• Helping students develop critical life skills such as teamwork, discipline, focus, and leadership
• Promoting healthy lifestyles, academics, and arts appreciation
• Providing dance instruction integrated with NC Common Core Standards
With few exceptions, our partnering schools use a portion of their Title 1 funding to help defray the costs of the program. However, their contributions are far less than the amount required to run the program.
They need your support to help keep arts in the center of their students' lives.
