Story
Now, more than ever, we need to support the fight for civil rights.
For more than 50 years, the Washington Lawyers' Committee has been working to dismantle racial injustice and pursue lasting change for housing justice, workers' rights, prisoners' rights, education equity, disability rights, and against police abuse.
WLC Legal Director Ryan Downer envisions a new path forward for both the Committee and for civil rights.
Our challenge is to bring the same urgency to these root causes as people are bringing to the symptoms. We must aggressively pursue cases that combat systemic racial inequality, and reframe the narrative around inequality as an urgent matter of public safety. Our team has been doing that work.
WLC is uniquely positioned to lead the movement toward lasting systemic change. We are excited to expand the reach of our work, to help frame the issues in a compelling way.
We invite you to join us in this fight and support our fundraising efforts to dismantle injustices in DC, Maryland, and Virginia!
