Howard University Alternative Spring Break (HUASB) is a nationally recognized service-learning program for students of all faiths and backgrounds to embrace the Howard University motto of Truth and Service. Coordinated through the Office of the Dean of the Chapel and offered at no cost to students, this student-led University service initiative allows students to discover the power of ethical leadership, civic engagement, and communal responsibility.

The 29th annual (HUASB) program will take place March 4-11, 2023. This years theme, Back to Our Roots: Truth and Service Forever, commemorates the decades of service in communities throughout the globe. During this years program, Howard University students will serve in 25 domestic and international communities focusing on various service initiatives, such as community development, developing pathways to food and housing stability, disaster resilience, education, holistic wellness, poverty, restorative justice, and youth empowerment.

This year HUASB has received an overwhelming response of student volunteers that have expressed their commitment to forgo their traditional spring break and devote themselves to being change agents in systematically underserved communities. The Office of the Dean of the Chapel is committed to ensuring that every student that wants to serve will be able to serve without financial barriers.

We are asking HUASB Alumni and friends to make a gift to the Alternative Spring Break program and ensure that our students have the financial support needed to change the world through service this Spring Break!
