Story
For more than 50 years, the Washington Lawyers' Committee has been working to dismantle racial injustice and pursue lasting change for housing justice, workers' rights, prisoners' rights, education equity, and disability rights.
In December of last year, we settled our lawsuit with Virginia affirming that peer masking in VA public schools is a reasonable modification for students with disabilities that put them at high risk for COVID-19.
Children like mine should not be told they cannot participate safely in school or that they have to be segregated. They have a right to the same education as every other child. As adults it's our responsibility to make sure that we include everyone in our decisions and come up with solutions that provide equity in school. -Tasha Nelson, Parent & Plaintiff
Thanks to this settlement children like Tasha Nelson's will be able to safely go to school with their classmates. We invite you to support our fundraising efforts to dismantle injustices in DC, Maryland, and Virginia!
