Did you know Girl Scouts is 109 years old this year?
Juliette Gordon Low began the first Girl Scout troop on March 12, 1912. At this first troop meeting in Savannah, Georgia, there were 18 girls present. Since then, Girl Scouts has grown to over 2.5 million members. In fact, one in every two adult women in the United States is a Girl Scout alum.
Even though this past year has been difficult and different for all of us, now is a time to celebrate as we know Girl Scouting has continued to prepare girls to take the lead in today's world. Throughout this challenging year, Girl Scouts Carolinas Peaks to Piedmont has provided girl-led, girl-only programming in the core areas of STEM, outdoors, life skills and entrepreneurship, and we have brought girls together virtually like never before. Since last March, over 7,000 girls have enjoyed our virtual programming from almost all 50 states and several countries!
As we celebrate the birthday of Girl Scouts today, please consider making a gift to help our mission of building girls of courage, confidence and character across our 40 counties in western and central North Carolina.
Your gift will ensure that the girl whose mother lost her job can continue to earn life skill badges. That the middle school girl who is facing isolation can stay connected to her Girl Scout community. That the girl who is struggling with remote learning has another source of support and engagement. And that the girl who is unable to commit to attend camp this summer due to finances can actually participate in a full camp experience, where she will try new adventures like building a fire and paddling a canoe.
With your gift, Girl Scouts can continue to make the world a better place for generations to come. Make a gift today to celebrate our 109th birthday and help girls realize their dreams and potential through Girl Scouting!
