Story
Summer Search has been supporting young people from low-income backgrounds to become educated, thriving young adults for 30 years and now this support is more critical than ever.
2020 has been an unprecedented year. The impact of the COVID-19 outbreak has created rippling repercussions for Summer Search's students and families such as job loss, lack of paid sick leave, and housing and food insecurity. The senseless violence against Black people has compelled communities across the country to protest against racism in all forms.
Despite everything that has impacted our country in 2020, Summer Search New York City students have continued to succeed:
- 100% of Summer Searchers graduated high school
- 96% were accepted to a post-secondary program
- 82% have committed to a post-secondary program
Summer Search remains committed to supporting our students so they may persevere, thrive, and have access to programming that truly champions justice and equity.
Request for Support
Each September, the New York City Associate Board hosts an annual Soirée to raise funds and awareness for Summer Search. The Soirée is one of Summer Search's most successful events, typically welcoming 250 guests and raising over $150,000 annually. Due to the impact of COVID-19, this year's Soirée had to be cancelled. Despite this, the Associate Board has committed to raise $50,000 by September 30th. Your contribution will help ensure Summer Search is able to continue supporting and uplifting our students through 2020 and beyond.
Virtual Soirée
In addition to fundraising, the Associate Board will be hosting a Virtual Soirée on Thursday, September 24th to celebrate the accomplishments and work of Summer Search's students and staff over the past year. There will be remarks from current students, alumni, and staff.
