Story
The 1882 Challenge reflects Church Army's history and creativity in raising money to fund our incredible work.
Will you please help us by undertaking a sponsored event between 18 and 26 September which is the date when Wilson Carlile is remembered by the Church of England. Ideally it should be something including the numbers 18 or 82, e.g. 82 laps round your garden, an 18 mile run, making and selling 18 jars of jam or whatever you want to do! This is a great way for your creativity to shine through.
For many 2020 has been a year to forget we dont even need to list all of the reasons why, weve all been affected one way or another.
Lockdown has restricted our freedom in ways we could never have imagined. The creative ways in which our evangelists and staff work today is totally in line with the creativity which Wilson Carlile displayed in founding Church Army back in 1882 - to be a movement of ordinary people whose aim was to reach those the Church was failing to reach.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, shops and business are struggling or closing and many charities may not survive. More than ever our world needs to know the good news of Jesus and more than ever churches and charities stand in the gap to ensure the hungry are fed, the homeless are safely sheltered and the isolated and the lonely are welcomed into community. Its in this context we are continuing to open new centres of mission to help meet the need but this all costs money.
Thats why wed like YOU to get involved in the 1882 Challenge. Thank you for your generosity, efforts and creativity!
